From the moment you arrive you are made to feel that nothing is too much trouble. The warm and friendly welcome is hard to beat elsewhere. Some say that the Alex is the most luxurious hut of the Swiss alps. In any case you dive into a wonderworld of ‘extravagant mountain style’.

The Alex celebrated in 2011 its 50th anniversary. It has been founded by Alex Perren, a former ski and mountain guide. During all these years he and his charming Austrian wife Gisela built up a jewel in the Zermatt hotel industry. The Alex is one of the flagships in Zermatt today. Alex and Gisela were trendsetters in many aspects as well as very generous hosts. The hotel is run today by their daughter Christina and her husband René.

Zermatt is one of the leading ski resorts in the world. There’s good skiing and snowboarding for all levels including fascinating off-piste.

The Alex is very centrally located and in walking distance from the train station. In less than two minutes you are on the famous Gornergrat train bringing you into one of three ski regions in Zermatt. Sunnega-Rothorn station is a 5 minutes walk away – the unique e-taxis transport the guests to the Klein Matterhorn station in less than 10 minutes.

    As for culinary delights, the hotel Alex offers with the Alex Grill and the wine cellar Bodega Bacchus exquisite places to dine & wine. The French chef Fredy Fischer has guaranteed since many years for a light as well as a gourmet cuisine. Specialties are meat and fish from the grill.

    The Bodega Bacchus offers space for up to 22 people in a stunning wine cellar with the longest oak table in Zermatt. You can choose from a big variety of wines from all over the world. Local specialties from the Valais are served with exceptional care.

    Alex Lounge Bar

    The Alex lounge bar is one of the hot spots in town. You certainly cannot buy this unique atmosphere. Guests are impressed by this wonderful lounge-cocktail bar with three fireplaces and different themed corners including ‘The Highlander’, a Scotish corner with leather floors, serving a variety of blended and single malt whiskys. There is twice a week (Thursday and Friday) live music in the winter.

    The latest innovation in this trendy bar is a fumoir for cigar and whiskys aficionados. The Smokies offers a wide choice of Cuban and Dominican cigars and a selection of rare single malt whiskys.

    Zermatt arguable provides the best views in the Alps with the striking Matterhorn overlooking the town. The town itself is car free meaning that you can through the streets more freely. There is plenty of history to take in whilst you are in the resort from the Matterhorn museum to the old style buildings and small cobbled streets.
